Traveling Huntleys

Creativity-Ceramics, Painting, Photography

September 18, 2023 by Michael

Creativity is all around us, even if we don’t always notice it. It’s in the paintings on our walls, the sculptures in our parks, the music we listen to, the words we write down, the landscaping we enjoy and the movies we watch. Creativity can be a source of beauty, inspiration, and meaning in our lives. It can also help us to connect with ourselves, others, and the world around us.

Creativity is an essential part of our daily living. It can enrich our lives in many ways, from making us feel good to helping us connect with others, learn and grow. Whenever we are feeling stressed, we take a few hours to create a piece of art. It is amazing how much better we feel.

No matter how you choose to experience art, we make sure to take the time to appreciate its beauty and power. Creativity has the potential to make our lives richer and more meaningful. Fortunately, art has always been in our life. Michael’s father, Jim went to fashion design school. Over the years, he sculpted, painted, and enjoyed photography. Later in life he was accomplished at watercolors. Michael learned pottery in high school, dabbled in painting, drawing and jewelry making, loves photography, and more recently picked up pottery after a 50 year hiatus. For awhile, he was sculpting either in clay or casting. Sandy enjoys abstract acrylics. Jeff, our older brother, was an accomplished photographer and spent most of his career as a newspaper photographer. Terri enjoys painting and is very talented at it.

Photography

Photography is a versatile art form that can be used to express a wide range of emotions and ideas. It is a powerful way to capture and share the world around us, and it continues to evolve and grow as a medium. Photography makes a blog much more interesting to read.

There are many different ways to use photography as an art form. Some photographers focus on capturing the beauty of the natural world, while others use photography to document social and political issues. Still others use photography to express their own personal vision of the world.
No matter what the subject matter, all great photographs share one thing in common: they are all creative expressions of the photographer’s vision. The photographer uses their skills and imagination to create an image that is more than just a simple snapshot. They use light, composition, and other elements to create an image that is visually appealing and emotionally evocative.

Jeff was very good at photography. This was when newspapers were in black and white, then color. Initially he did his own developing. Later slide film would be scanned and sent to the newspaper. Then came the age of digital cameras. I don’t have copies of his work other than these images from the internet.

There are many advantages to using acrylic paints. They are relatively inexpensive, easy to find, and non-toxic. Acrylic paints also dry quickly, which allows artists to work quickly and easily. This makes them a good choice for beginners and for artists who want to be able to see their results quickly.

Bourbon glasses. There are many different types of ceramics, each with its own unique properties. The most common types of ceramics are earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Earthenware is the most porous type of ceramic, making it ideal for functional pottery. Stoneware is denser than earthenware and can withstand higher temperatures, making it ideal for decorative objects. Porcelain is the most refined type of ceramic, and is known for its smooth, white surface. Michael primarily uses stoneware and porcelain.

Ceramics can be decorated in a variety of ways, including painting, glazing, and carving. Painting is a popular way to decorate ceramics, and can be used to create a variety of effects. Glazing is a process of applying a thin layer of glass to the surface of the ceramic, which can give it a shiny or matte finish. Carving is a more challenging technique, but can be used to create intricate designs.
Ceramics is a versatile art form that can be used to express a wide range of emotions and ideas. It is a process that requires patience and skill, and can be a rewarding way to create beautiful and unique objects. Needless to say, we are enjoying retirement.
