Heidelberg, Germany, is a city steeped in history, culture, and academic excellence, making it one of the most enchanting destinations in Europe. First mentioned in 1196, Heidelberg’s origins trace back to Roman and Celtic settlements, with its medieval foundation centered around the iconic Heidelberg Castle and the Church of the Holy Spirit. From Rüdesheim we went upriver on the Rhine to the Main River and docked in Frankfurt. From there we took a bus to Heidelberg, Germany, which is on the Neckar River.

Cologne, Germany, is a vibrant city with a rich history that spans over 2,000 years. Founded in the 1st century AD as the Roman Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium, it grew from a Roman settlement into a major medieval trading hub and today stands as the fourth-largest city in Germany, with about 1.1 million residents in the city proper. From Amsterdam we sailed upriver to Cologne, Germany.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is a city of contrasts. It’s a place where the weight of history coexists with a vibrant, modern culture. From the haunting remnants of the Berlin Wall to the city’s art and night life scene, there’s something to charm every visitor. Over 3.85 million people live here. From Copenhagen we traveled to Warnemunde, a seaside resort community in Germany. There we caught a 2.5-hour train ride to Berlin. Needless to say, it was a very long day of sightseeing. We got back on the ship at 9 pm.
