The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania is one of the world’s most awe-inspiring and controversial architectural achievements. Rising above Spirea’s Hill in the heart of Romania’s capital, this colossal structure dominates the cityscape and serves as a dramatic symbol of the country’s complex modern history. From Ruse, Bulgaria we sailed on the Danube River to Giurgiu, Romania where we took a motor coach into Bucharest.

Arbanassi, Bulgaria

Visiting the stone churches in Arbanassi, Bulgaria, was a deeply enriching experience that transported us back to the 17th century, immersing us in the rich spiritual and artistic heritage of the region. Our journey included two significant sacred sites: the Nativity Church and the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, both adorned with stunning frescoes that tell stories of faith, artistry and history. From Vidin we sailed on the Danube River to Ruse, Bulgaria.

Vidin, Bulgaria

Vidin was our next stop from Golubac Castle in Serbia along the Danube River. Belogradchik Red Rock Valley, located in northwestern Bulgaria near the town of Belogradchik, is a spectacular natural wonder known for its striking sandstone and conglomerate rock formations. These formations stretch approximately 30 kilometers in length and about 3 kilometers wide, creating a dramatic landscape that has fascinated visitors for centuries.

Golubac Castle, Lepenski Vir, Serbia

Golubac Castle, also known as Golubac Fortress, is a striking medieval stronghold situated in Serbia on the right bank of the Danube River. Perched on a steep rocky cliff at the entrance to the Đerdap Gorge (Iron Gates), it commands breathtaking views and occupies a strategic position controlling the passage along one of the most important waterways in the region. From Belgrade we continued along the Danube River to the Golubac Castle in Serbia.

It is best known as a symbol of resilience and suffering due to its pivotal role in the Croatian War of Independence, but its history and cultural significance extend much further. From Budapest, Hungary we sailed on the Danube River to Vukovar, Croatia.
