Bern, the capital of Switzerland, offers a nice blend of political significance, cultural preservation and scenic beauty. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city charms visitors with its medieval architecture, sandstone buildings, and the striking turquoise loop of the Aare River. On our Tauck Switzerland tour, we traveled by bus from Interlaken and Jungfraujoch to Bern for a half-day exploration of one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval capitals.

Jungfraujoch is one of Switzerland’s most rewarding excursions, combining breathtaking alpine scenery with remarkable engineering history. Known as the “Top of Europe,” Jungfraujoch sits at 3,454 meters (11,332 feet) and offers access to the Aletsch Glacier, Europe’s largest glacier, along with panoramic views of the Bernese Alps. On our Tauck Switzerland tour, the full-day journey to Jungfraujoch — complete with champagne in the Ice Palace and hot cocoa on the glacier — was one of the most unforgettable experiences of the entire trip.

Interlaken, Switzerland sits dramatically between the turquoise Lakes Thun and Brienz in the Bernese Oberland, serving as the adventure hub of the Jungfrau region. This lakeside town draws nature lovers with its backdrop of snow-capped peaks like Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. On our Tauck Switzerland tour, Interlaken served as our base for two memorable nights — including a sunset dinner at Harder Kulm and a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Jungfraujoch the following day.

Lake Maggiore is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Europe, stretching over 40 miles across the border between Italy and Switzerland, with the Italian side featuring many notable towns like Stresa. As part of our Tauck Switzerland tour, this was one of our most memorable stops — at the heart of the lake lies Isola Bella, a small island that captures the imagination with its striking blend of history, art and natural beauty.
