Random Photos San Diego

April 23, 2025 by Michael Huntley

Random photos come up either with our mirror-less cameras or with an iPhone when not traveling. They are rarely our best photos but remind us of everyday life around our home. Each day we take a morning walk and along the way we will stumble across something interesting. With every season something new presents itself. One of us usually has a camera or their phone everywhere we go and ready to snap a picture of something interesting. We like the spontaneity, often using natural light and avoiding flash to keep the moment genuine. It’s about being open to capturing interesting scenes or moments that arise unexpectedly, whether during a walk, a drive, or any other activity. Often, because of the spontaneity, the photos are not the sharpest or best composed or have the best lighting, but they capture the moment.

Wet Winter in San Diego

March 15, 2024 by Michael Huntley

A wet winter isn’t new to us. Seems like it happens every spring/winter during our travels. We are always pushing the seasons, especially in the fall, winter and spring to catch the fall colors, wildflowers or the first tree blossoms. We spent part of our winter in San Diego this year.

Family Reunion in San Diego, California

November 7, 2021 by Michael Huntley

Every so often my family comes out from Colorado to visit and to see my father Jim, who lives in an assisted living facility in Escondido. Jim’s wife Hazel passed a number of years ago, but he has been doing very well. They had six children — getting four of us together is more than we could hope for.

Predators & The Wild Side of The Crosby, Rancho Santa Fe, California

October 7, 2021 by Michael Huntley

Living at The Crosby means sharing the neighborhood with a lot more than golfers. Our home sits on the edge of San Diego County preserve land that stretches back hundreds of acres toward Lake Hodges — and the wildlife doesn’t pay much attention to property lines. Some of it is spectacular. Some of it requires snake fencing.

Wings and Wildflowers in The Crosby, Rancho Santa Fe, California

September 7, 2021 by Michael Huntley

This summer has been a good one for butterflies, flowers, and birds. Possibly because there were significant winter storms and now everything has responded.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Birch Aquarium, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle, and More

August 7, 2021 by Michael Huntley

When Patrick and Sheila Corey flew in from Portland, Maine for a week-long visit, we finally had a good excuse to revisit some of our favorite San Diego spots — and a few we had been meaning to get to. Over several days we made it out to the Safari Park in Escondido, Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, the USS Midway downtown, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle, the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, and a handful of our favorite local places for food and drinks in between. Showing visitors around a place you love has a way of reminding you why you love it.
