Heber City Utah, Beaver Utah & Thayne Wyoming: Fall Colors & Star Valley Adventures

After a busy summer in San Diego catching up on house repairs, RV service, and a string of medical procedures, we were finally ready to hit the road again. Our route took us north through Nevada and Utah before crossing into Wyoming’s Star Valley — a part of the country we had visited years ago but were thrilled to rediscover. Fall colors were just beginning to show their brilliance, and the mountain air felt like a reward after months at sea level.

From Cody, Wyoming we looped back through the beautiful Bighorn Mountains to explore Story and Sheridan, Wyoming before heading north into Montana to visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield. The drive through the Bighorns was stunning in every direction, and each stop along the way added another layer to the history of this part of the American West.

From the Bighorn Mountains, we headed west to Cody, Wyoming — the eastern gateway to Yellowstone and one of the most historically rich small towns in the American West. It rained for much of our stay, but that didn’t slow us down. We spent a half-day at the extraordinary Buffalo Bill Center of the West, made a full day trip into Yellowstone through the dramatic east entrance, and enjoyed every bite of the local homemade food.
